How do timed red-carpet arrival slots work?
The production issues each guest or party a minute-accurate slot and an accreditation for the vehicle, and the arrivals lane runs to it. Arriving early is as much a problem as arriving late - the car is turned away and re-cycled through the South Bank. We plan the collection backwards from the slot with contingency built into the staging, not into the arrival.
Which side does the chauffeur open the door on?
The camera side, and it is briefed rather than improvised. Our drivers know which way the carpet runs at the Royal Festival Hall, step out to the correct door, and manage the hem and the coat as you exit. It sounds like a detail; on a photographed arrival it is the whole job.
Can the car wait during the ceremony?
Only with accreditation, which is exactly why we plan it in advance. Unaccredited vehicles cannot stand anywhere near the South Bank arrivals area on the night. Accredited cars hold in the designated area and are called forward; without accreditation the driver stages further out and collects at an agreed point once the road reopens.
How should we cover the after-party?
As one continuous booking, not a second reservation. Finding a car in central London at 01:00 on BAFTA night is the hardest leg of the evening, and the official party moves guests as a body. Keeping the same car and driver from collection through the ceremony, the party and home is both simpler and, once you count the failed attempts, cheaper.
