Is there anywhere to park in Braemar on Games day?
Realistically, no. Braemar is a village of fewer than a thousand residents hosting several thousand visitors, and the field parking fills early. Chauffeured guests are set down close to the Memorial Park and the car holds outside the village, returning on your call. Self-driving on Games day usually means a long walk from a distant field.
How long does the drive from Aberdeen or Edinburgh really take?
Longer than a map estimate. The A93 through Royal Deeside is a beautiful single-carriageway road with no overtaking capacity, and on Games day it carries the entire event. Add an hour to a normal Aberdeen run and considerably more from Edinburgh. We collect early rather than optimistically, and we would rather you had coffee in Ballater than sat in a queue at Crathie.
Does the royal attendance affect movement?
Briefly but firmly. The roads through the village close around the arrival and departure of the royal party in mid-afternoon, and vehicles inside the village cannot move during that window. Your chauffeur stages outside it, which means your collection is unaffected while the village itself is held.
Should we book the car for more than the Games day itself?
Most Deeside guests do. There is essentially no licensed vehicle capacity in Braemar or Ballater during the Gathering weekend, and estates, castles and distilleries in the area are all a drive apart.
