Almost always. A typical Fringe day is three or four venues with twenty-minute gaps between shows, spread across the Old Town, Bristo Square, Summerhall and the New Town. Can the car reach the Old Town venues?
Only to the cordon. Edinburgh closes large sections of the Old Town to traffic for the festival month, so venues around the Royal Mile, Bristo Square and Cowgate are reached on foot from the nearest permitted point. Our drivers know where each cordon edge sits for the current year and meet you there rather than sending you to a street the car cannot enter.
What about getting back after a midnight show?
This is the real argument for a chauffeur in August. Licensed vehicle availability in Edinburgh collapses after 23:00 during the Fringe and app-based cars surge hard or simply do not appear. A held car means the late show is a decision about the show rather than about how you will get back to the hotel.
Do you cover the Tattoo and the other August festivals too?
Yes - the International Festival, the Book Festival and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo all overlap with the Fringe, and the Tattoo in particular closes the Castle Esplanade approach nightly.
