Things worth knowing
- Leaving immediately after the last race is the slowest option - the bandstand singalong buys 40 minutes of clear road.
- Car Park 1 berths must be booked in advance and matched to your registration; give us the pass details at booking.
- Morning dress in a hot June car is punishing - drivers pre-cool the cabin and carry garment hooks.
Royal Ascot chauffeur hire - frequently asked questions
Do you need my Car Park 1 pass in advance?
Yes. Ascot matches passes to vehicle registrations, so we need the pass reference and the enclosure at the time of booking, and we then confirm the registration of the exact car allocated to you. Without a pass the car uses the stewarded set-down and holds in a public car park, which still works but adds a short walk and a few minutes to your collection.
How does the dress code affect the journey itself?
Practically, more than people expect. Top hats travel in boxes rather than on laps, ladies' headpieces need clear head height, and morning dress in June heat means the cabin is pre-cooled before collection. We recommend the Range Rover or S-Class for two to three guests in full dress, and the V-Class for four or more, because individual rear seats stop hats and hems being crushed.
When is the best time to leave to avoid the A330 gridlock?
Not straight after the seventh race. The single-carriageway A330 and the racecourse exits saturate for about 40 minutes as the crowd leaves together. Guests who stay for the bandstand singing and leave around 18:45-19:00 typically reach the M3 faster than those who left at 18:00. Your chauffeur will tell you the live picture on the day and can pull forward if the roads clear early.
Can the car serve as our base between races?
On a day-rate booking, yes - that is the point of it. The car holds in the allocated car park with your ice box, spare shoes, phone chargers and umbrellas, and you can return to it between races. The chauffeur stays with the vehicle throughout, so nothing is left unattended.
What does a day-rate booking for Royal Ascot include, and when is a single transfer enough?
A day-rate booking keeps the same chauffeur and the same vehicle with you for the whole of Royal Ascot - the car holds your coats and kit, there is no waiting charge, and an overrun simply extends the agreed hours. A single transfer suits guests attending one session with a firm finish time. Lead-in pricing for Royal Ascot starts at £370 in the Range Rover; day hire is quoted on the hours and vehicle you need. All prices shown are indicative lead-in fares for the vehicle named and are subject to change - your final quote is confirmed in writing at the time of booking.
Which vehicle actually suits Royal Ascot, rather than which is most expensive?
Range Rover or S-Class - boot space matters Bear in mind what travels with you: top hat boxes, spare shoes, umbrellas, cool boxes and glassware. The Range Rover is our recommendation here. Tell us the passenger count, the luggage and whether anyone is in formal dress, and we will specify the car on that basis rather than upselling you into a larger one you do not need.
What does your chauffeur know about Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire that an app driver will not?
Routed from London via the M3 / A329(M) before midday. Returns staggered to clear post-Race 7 congestion on the A330. Our drivers are briefed on the approved set-down (car park 1 for pre-booked premium berths; otherwise the stewarded drop-off on the ascot high street side) and on where the vehicle may legally hold between drop-off and collection. That briefing is the difference between a car that meets you and a car that cannot reach you.
Can you collect guests from several addresses and run more than one car for Royal Ascot?
Yes. Multi-pickup and multi-vehicle work is routine for Royal Ascot: we plan the route so the whole party arrives together, run two or three cars in convoy where needed, and give you one dispatch contact and one booking reference for all of them. Convoy work is quoted per vehicle rather than at the lead-in fare, and is confirmed in writing before the day.
