Things worth knowing
- The closures are two-phase: the procession in the morning and the fireworks in the evening, with a window in between.
- Livery hall guests are often best set down at Bank or Aldgate and walked in.
- It is November - the walk from the cordon is short but cold; the car holds coats for the lunch.
Lord Mayor's Show chauffeur hire - frequently asked questions
How extensive are the City closures on Show day?
Extensive and two-phase. The procession route through Cheapside, St Paul's, Fleet Street and the Strand closes from early morning, reopens through the middle of the day, then a second set of closures goes in for the evening fireworks on the Thames. Set-down is outside the ring - typically Liverpool Street, Blackfriars or Aldgate - and we plan around both phases, not just the parade.
Where should livery company guests be dropped?
It depends which hall, and we check rather than assume - the halls sit inside the closure area and their approaches differ. Bank and Aldgate are the usual set-down points, with a short walk in. If you are attending both the procession and a hall lunch, the car uses the midday reopening window to reposition rather than holding through the morning.
Can we watch the evening fireworks with the same car?
Yes, but plan for the second closure. The Thames display brings the riverside roads down again in the late afternoon, so the chauffeur stages away from the river and collects once the crowd disperses. Guests who try to leave immediately after the display generally wait longer than those who let the bridges clear for twenty minutes.
Is the car useful if the whole route is closed?
Very - because November and the closures are exactly the problem. The walk from the cordon is short, and the car carries the coats, umbrellas and anything from the morning while you stand in the cold, then takes you straight to lunch. Public transport into the City on Show day is crowded, and finding a vehicle afterwards on a Saturday is not quick.
What does a day-rate booking for Lord Mayor's Show include, and when is a single transfer enough?
A day-rate booking keeps the same chauffeur and the same vehicle with you for the whole of Lord Mayor's Show - the car holds your coats and kit, there is no waiting charge, and an overrun simply extends the agreed hours. A single transfer suits guests attending one session with a firm finish time. Lead-in pricing for The Lord Mayor's Show starts at £190 in the Mercedes S-Class; day hire is quoted on the hours and vehicle you need. All prices shown are indicative lead-in fares for the vehicle named and are subject to change - your final quote is confirmed in writing at the time of booking.
Which vehicle actually suits Lord Mayor's Show, rather than which is most expensive?
Mercedes S-Class Bear in mind what travels with you: umbrellas and warm coats. The Mercedes S-Class is our recommendation here. Tell us the passenger count, the luggage and whether anyone is in formal dress, and we will specify the car on that basis rather than upselling you into a larger one you do not need.
What does your chauffeur know about City of London that an app driver will not?
Approach via the A1211 / Aldgate before the cordon. Stand-by parking arranged. Our drivers are briefed on the approved set-down (outside the city closure ring; set-down near liverpool street, blackfriars or aldgate depending on the day's plan) and on where the vehicle may legally hold between drop-off and collection. That briefing is the difference between a car that meets you and a car that cannot reach you.
Can you collect guests from several addresses and run more than one car for Lord Mayor's Show?
Yes. Multi-pickup and multi-vehicle work is routine for Lord Mayor's Show: we plan the route so the whole party arrives together, run two or three cars in convoy where needed, and give you one dispatch contact and one booking reference for all of them. Convoy work is quoted per vehicle rather than at the lead-in fare, and is confirmed in writing before the day.
